Mindfulness Counseling

Often in our lives, depending on the moment that we live, we are using expressions such as: "I feel in a bind", "I feel oppression in the chest", "I can not breathe", "I feel unhappy" or "I do not know which way to turn." Whether it's a family problem or in our relationships, a difficulty at work or hesitation in finding an appropriate response to a period of change, we do not feel able to take the step that the situation requires.

This fact can lead us:

  • to a condition of discomfort and stress, temporary or long-term;
  • to an inner malaise, due to continued particular feelings or emotions;
  • to live with states of more or less temporary physical discomfort or with various types of diseases.

These factors and attitudes, in turn, added to the original problem, feed a vicious cycle that over time does nothing but make the sense of unease and inadequacy more wide, pervasive and debilitating.

We find thus not only in a state of deadlock faced with the situation that originated the problem, but with levels of suffering and stress much higher than what would be necessary. Our resources are used to stem these levels and are no longer available to address the situation. Then we seek other solutions, we try to bypass the problem or give up altogether. This creates within us the beliefs and ideas about our in-capabilities, our weakness, our inadequate character structure. Prejudices and preconceptions hard to die, who accompany us in the rest of our lives and which continue automatically and unconsciously to undermine our capacity for change.

This is when the use of a Mindfulness Counseling path offers the opportunity to find the space where to "break" this circle and it allows you to activate the transformation that the situation requires, but that the automatic reaction of our organism inhibits.

The counseling that I offer is above all a meeting between two human beings, framework for the development of a relationship of help. This means to create together a "protected space", where you can live and experience firsthand the unconditional listening, the trust, the empathy, and the total and complete acceptance of all that is brought and developed in the relationship.

These qualities of the relationship are such that in the unfolding of the meetings, naturally the focus is placed on the human being in the wholeness of his life experience, made of body and mind-heart, a unique indivisible which gradually we recover through the discovery of the body language, that of emotions and that of the mind.

A profound meeting that occurs in the light of the physical and mental awareness of the here and now, that we learn to grow and develop, and where my contribution is to support the client in the exploration of his inner and outer "world", refelcting to him the experience that he is living and working out, "feeling it" with him.

The path thus takes the form of a permanent laboratory of concrete and realistic self-discovery, where the client regains the ability to make choices and take decisions on its present and its future. A job into which converge the revolutionary contributions of humanistic psychology of Carl Rogers and the view on human beings and their lives of Buddhist psychology, the center of which is the Mindfulness or Awareness.

Mindfulness, or awareness, is a fundamental human quality. A way to learn and relate wisely with respect to everything that is happening in your life and that gives you a great sense of connection with your life, both inwardly and outwardly.
Jon Kabat-Zinn

Develop and practice Mindfulness in counseling meetings does not mean promoting new sensations or induce particular mental states in the client, but rather allow him to embrace what is, wake his senses, his eyes, his skin, his nose ... in a word, regenerate its direct and authentic feeling, the only one who is able to let him recognize and understand the quality of his experiences.

And often we discover together how these experiences, especially if perceived as painful, are fed and sustained by thoughts and worries that are repeated and self-generated and that are capable of taking up much of his living and obscure or distort what is happening, what he is seeing and feeling.

Taking care of the client in this path allows me to touch with hand the liberating power of Mindfulness and gives me the opportunity to attend his "blossoming", when he begins to enjoy moments increasingly wealthy and less dependent on automatic response mechanism that he has accumulated in the course of his history.
